A rupture bleeds darkness into wheat near Brambleford, animating scarecrows and supporting a large pumpkin-headed enemy. Shadows emerging from it reinforce the creatures.
Todd sees many portals across a strange black landscape and a vast watching presence. Contact with a tendril drags his arm across the threshold. His companions pull him free together, and darkness briefly enters his palm. He senses a direction toward another rupture before the sensation fades.
Sefi brings down the large scarecrow. Malcius uses his mote-infused lute to close the weakened tear. They find a dead royal surveyor and a journal describing other ruptures, including a twenty-foot opening in the Mist Vale Hills and a missing patrol. The party later turns the body over to authorities.
