Todd Van Wyk

Todd Van Wyk is an eighty-six-year-old half-elf rogue with developing warlock magic and a member of The Unfated Ones. He wears a red mask fused to his face and has significant gaps in his memory. His earlier travels included archaeological work and discovering a petrified rat called Ninkilim.

Multiple voices connected with the rat are distinguished in the story. At Aelmor, a dark presence leaves the rat, enters Guthber and escapes through the rift in a transformed body. Todd's later patron and the rat's earlier occupant are not safely treated as the same confirmed individual.

Todd bonds with a gray, void-tainted essence mote and summons Shala, a female familiar who can take different forms. He uses stealth, light weapons, invisible Mage Hand and other developing magic. He also makes the early copies of Arid's island map; Sefi's later maps are separate work.

He kills a surrendered tiefling after the forest-camp fight, against Malcius's wishes. In Rory's constructed festival, intruders exploit something within him and trigger a painful ratlike transformation. His companions try to restrain and calm him. Shala brings their new patron, who intervenes with the mask and restores Todd's half-elf form.

Shala says the normal trigger is the new moon and the form lasts until dawn, though lunar timing in the explanation is inconsistent. Back in the outside world Todd discovers darkness across part of his right foot. Shala later disappears and does not return when summoned. At Episode 47's end Todd transforms in the woods under a moonless sky, surrounded by cloaked figures, then loses consciousness.
