People around Sestone and Aelmor suffer monstrous physical transformations, including tentacles, altered limbs and other nonhuman features. Early testimony about their cause and behavior is inconsistent.

Zaharel later identifies Guthber as directing prisoner tests near the rift, while Helest unsuccessfully seeks a cure. One library patient dies despite his work. A reported transformation time for that individual is not established as a universal rule.

The party's rescue and rift closure do not demonstrate a universal antidote or prove the cause of every transformed creature encountered elsewhere.
