The Unfated Ones

The Unfated Ones are Malcius Sorrow, Sefi, Thormir Moonsight and Todd Van Wyk, the four adventurers who bond with essence motes beneath Aelmor Island and close its rift.

Zaharel identifies their awakening with a prophecy about worthy recipients chosen when Kyranda faces great need. Different cultures, soldiers and scholars interpret that tradition differently. The source and exact selection mechanism remain incompletely explained.

Their original Adventurers Guild commission brings them from Pendilor toward Sestone. They rescue island prisoners, investigate danger around Beckinsdale and eventually return to the capital. The group publicly accepts its name during storytelling in Sestone. Jeremiah later accompanies them as Sefi's trainee.

Rory claims to have belonged to another world's Unfated Ones and guides them through trials. Guild and castle personnel in Pendilor remain skeptical that these rank-one adventurers have the legendary status they claim.
